The project:

It was about giving a touch of color to a rather old bedroom painting the two bedside tables that accompanied the bed. For this work the owner of the tables wanted to maintain the old look without the original wood being seen, too clear for her taste. Therefore, color, vintage style and camouflage the color of wood. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to paint and wear with two new colors, one of base and one of surface. Indigo blue loved it, so we set out to do something tailor made. The base is a dark color, in this case the black lead, so that when wearing black peel and possibly some wood.

Mesita-de-noche-clasica-antes-de-pintarMaterials:

  •     Paint spray Chalk paint Pintyplus.
  •     Water based varnish Pintyplus Art & Craft.
  •     Thin and fine grit sandpaper (for different phases).
  •     Cloth moistened with water or alcohol.
  •     Nightstand.

Preparation and cleaning:

Remove the drawer and unscrew the handle to work more comfortably. It is important to remove any oil, rinse agents or even dyes that have been able to absorb the wood. To do this, we sand the surface and then with a rag moistened hand-to-mouth the whole surface to leave it free of dust. For sanding preparation you can use a top grain sandpaper or even work with an automatic sander.First layer, base color:For the base we chose the black lead from Pintyplus chalk. We shake the boat up to 1 minute after hearing the mixing balls. It is important for the painting to be homogeneous and does not create chiaroscuro. We paint cross-layers, this is from top to bottom and from left to right. We waited about fifteen minutes to dry to continue.

We follow the same procedure as for the first layer. We painted cross layers and followed until covering the whole surface. Let dry about fifteen minutes.

Wearing the furniture is perhaps the most relaxing part of the whole process. With a fine-grained sandpaper we will rub the edges of the table and the reliefs until the lower layers appear. It is a job that requires calm more than anything because it is easy to come up and end up wearing too much. Better to fall short. We play with the pressure and direction of the sanding only focusing on very specific areas of the table. It is okay for the base black color and some wood to appear older. In 5 ways to age objects with spray you can see some techniques to do it.

In this image you can see how the black appears just below the blue and above the wood giving greater truth to the aged. Once finished, we pass a cloth dampened with water to remove all the dust that we will have left when painting and sanding.

Varnish:

For this point we wait a little longer. It is even better to do it within 24 hours of painting. The chalk paint of Pintyplus is composed of resins in water base so the varnish must be of the same nature. For this Pintyplus has the water-based varnish of the Art & Craft range in matte finish. As we always do, we shake and apply cross-layers. If there is any remaining in the boat we invest it and press until only gas is left to be able to use it at another time.
